Talk is Cheap

June 16th, 2010

We seem to not be making many fans in Black Rise. We must be doing our jobs.  I thought I’d share with you guys one of the most enjoyable benefits of ganking things in low sec; The horrible smack talk.

(Local who’s bomber we killed on station who now smacks anytime he comes into local)

Aristeia Cersei > Quick tip:  train Navigation skills and maybe one day you too can leave the station undock point.

Aristeia Cersei > looks like the l33t station humpers are out in force tonight

(Wannabe pirates Raven Federation)

Crimson5kura > lol later losers (after ejecting from his ferox while we kill him)

Crims0nSkura > fail camp

Crims0nSkura > i always come abck in a new ship

(same Wannabe pirates sell us out in high sec during one of our gate camps)

tetrakill > giant gate camp in akidagi, they all global and have  multipule gardians.

tetrakill > so dont go in

Mad Hops > they failed to kill a stabber before it re-approached the gate

tetrakill > lol

Mad Hops > and the pansy-ass orca syndicate needs logistics to run a gate camp

(Brave militia Drake pilots)

Chong’ Goon > for 2 dudes in drakes we back it up

(Dead Terrorists talk smack to our scout before a fight)

Inn keeper > come on bun

Inn keeper > lets go

Mr Bunbury > lol

Inn keeper > your fleet vs the 2 of us your not gonna fight?

Mr Bunbury > i smell hotdrop….

Inn keeper > your nose is broke

Inn keeper > scared bitch

Mr Bunbury > you guys arnt that stupid to have 2-5 people take on a fleet

Mr Bunbury > unless of course you have backup

sushistrip > its you guys though….

Inn keeper > to get a fight from you we ahve to get way outnumberd

(Fight happens with near equal numbers on a gate. DT hotdrop 3 carriers, but not before losing 2 Drakes and 1 Rapier, while only getting a Hurricane before we all get away. )

Savanna Skye > Lol hot drop happy

5amm > took the bait

the Entity > <3

Ajunta P’all > might as well

Savanna Skye > Yep

FeralShadow > yeah, we’re bored

5amm > good fishy fishy

Mr Bunbury > lol

Kittel > runningisnt winning

Mr Bunbury > and you were bitchin about fair fights

Mr Bunbury > we killed more shit

Blindinglite > you killed 3 out of 18 lol

Kittel > you outnumbered us and still ran

Mr Bunbury > thats all it takes

Blindinglite > you guys ran before the fight started

Mr Bunbury > LMFAO

Mr Bunbury > outnumbered?

Mr Bunbury > fucking chimera

Blindinglite > ya i agree i woudl of ran also

gs6ypsy Rose > gf

Blindinglite > i want a rematch lol:)

To Kill a Carrier

June 7th, 2010

I logged on Sunday night, and immediately alliance chat started flashing at me. My alliance mate Ashihei was trying to get my attention, and let me know that there was a neutral Chimera carrier active somewhere in our home system. I asked Ash to probe the thing down, while I figured out what we could do about it. Ash and I were the only ones around at the time, and I started thinking of who I could get on the bat phone to help take out the carrier. Luckily, as I browsed my contacts, a few more of our people got online, enough where we felt we could make a run at the carrier. By this time Ash had already probed the Chimera out, finding it in space fighting off some NPCs, either a mission or complex of some sort. With a handful of people in local, and a couple of characters we assumed were alts of the carrier pilot, we decided to play it safe. Our fleet of 5 would warp in on the carrier with our remote rep battleships, tackle it, and see what happened while doing our best to stay alive. If it turned out to be a trap of some sort, we’d do our best with the battleships. If the carrier looked alone, we would bring in my alt’s Thanatos to ensure the Chimera went down before any back up could arrive.

We undocked our fleet, a Megathron, two Abaddons, a Raven, and my Tempest Brutish, and took a fleet warp from our prober which landed us right on top of the Chimera. We tackled it and started laying into it. The carrier was a little slow to react, but finally started attacking Ash’s Abaddon with his fighters, and using smart bombs to pop our drones and do a little damage to those of us right on top of him. We kept reps on Ash, and started shooting some of the fighters to try and reduce the Chimera’s damage potential. Around this time we decided it wasn’t a trap, and that the Chimera was ours to kill. I undocked Firstknight’s (my alt) Thanatos , Second Hand, and warped it into the fight.

Second Hand locked up the carrier and Ash, engaging fighters, energy neutralizers, and a warp disrupter on the former, while using its remote capital armor repairs to quickly fix any damage on the later. At this point, the Chimera’s fate was sealed. Our carrier keeping the battleships alive while also applying its damage from fighters, and the battleships with their guns engaged on the Chimera.  The Chimera expired into a extremely gratifying explosion, leaving behind the ghostly hull of a wreck you only see when capitals have died. We quickly looted the wreck, and some of the abandoned fighters. The kill was cause for much celebration and playful envy from members in the alliance.

Later on that evening, I again was using FirstKnight, this time in his covert-ops Helios Class Frigate, Dr. Jekyl,  to scout some neighboring systems. In Innia, I came across a Tengu Strategic Cruiser on scan, along with a lone wreck. Deciding this might lead to something, I moved over to the next system to take a look while letting our gang got into position. Coming back into Innia, the Tengu was still on scan along with even more wrecks. I warped off out of his scan range, and deployed combat probes where I though he would be. After a brief bit of probing, I had the Tengu at 100% and warped Dr. Jekyl in. The cov-ops landed about 8k off the Tengu and pointed it. Our fleet came barreling through the gate, and vaped the expensive cruiser. In a “What are you doing!?!?/ Good Job!!!” moment, Bun used the smartbomb on his Raven to also extinguish our victims pod, coming incredibly close to also making the Tengu’s wreck disappear. The wreck lived, but unfortunately the Tengu’s 350 million Isk shield booster died with the ship. It was still a pretty phenomenal catch, as strategic cruiser kills can be few and far between.

A bad day for missioners/ ratters, a good day for us.

Month in Review- May 2010

June 2nd, 2010

May ended up being a fantastic month for our little corp. We joined our new alliance, The Orca Syndicate on May 8th, and it’s breathed new life and momentum into the group. The guys and girls from Arcane Empire are great people and it’s been a good alliance thus far. We’ve added 3 new members during May, and activity has been great. Hopefully the steady growth in good members continues for both us and the alliance.

The month of May was a good month on the killboard too. We logged 99 kills to 13 losses, with an efficiency of 90.66%. The highlight kills were the Providence freighter kill I recanted in my last blog, and an excellent Tengu kill on the 31st.  It will be hard to improve on these numbers, but June has already started off nicely with, believe it or not, another freighter kill. Not to mention an Orca loaded with cargo only a couple hours later.

Personally it was a good month for me too, as I shot my sec status deep into the negatives, and have embraced my new criminal status. A few exciting skills were picked up this month too, including my alt’s ability to fly a Sin Black Ops T2 Battleship. This led to a fun evening in which we dropped bombers and recons on an unsuspecting raven that was probed out in a mission.

Point on the Providence!

May 27th, 2010

To welcome in the new patch, we decided to do a bit of good old high sec entry system pirate gate camping. Our fleet assembled into battleships, battlecruisers, and heavy interdictors, with the order of the day being artillery fit Maelstroms. I boarded my Maelstrom, Alpha Dog, and joined fleet. Our actual fleet consisted of four Maelstroms, an Armageddon, an Abaddon, an Apocalypse, a Megathron, a Drake, a Devoter, a Phobos, and a Rifter (more on this rifter pilot later).

This was my first time flying a Maelstrom in actual combat, and let me tell you, I think I’m in love. The key to the artillery fit Maelstrom is the grotesque amount of damage the ship does per volley. It’s absolutely punishing, even if you can make a coffee run to your local Starbucks between  its shots. Our first victim of the day was a poorly fit Caracal. We warped onto the gate from our pounce, and when the Caracal decloaked, my Maelstrom was the first to lock and the hapless victim disappeared into oblivion with a single volley from the 8 massive 1400mm Howitzer Artillery IIs fit onto Alpha Dog (out of curiosity, I looked it up, a 1400mm shell would be 4.59 feet in width). The only other ship that got on the killmail was the Phobos who made the initial tackle.

The next victim to jump into us was a Hurricane battlecruiser. Suffering a similar fate, the Hurricane only lasted as long as it took the Maelstroms and Apocalypse to resolve a lock. This scene would play out during the night multiple times including, impressively enough, on three Drakes, whose massive tanks always present a challenge. They too fell near instantly against the volley power of the Maelstroms, with the damage inflicted so suddenly that the shields on the Drakes never get a chance to regenerate.

The prize catch of the night however, came a few minutes after the Hurricane kill. Our fleet had moved off the high sec entry gate, chasing yet another Drake that had come in from a different gate into our system. Almost at the same time as the FC was about to give a jump order to continue chasing the drake, my associate, who was sitting in the High sec side of the Ichoriya gate, reports a Providence freighter and a Scorpion battleship jumping into Akidagi.  The fleet scurried, aligning and warping back to the Ichoriya gate at optimal ranges, tacklers in front. As we landed one by one, the huge freighter was already commencing its alignment to wherever it wanted to go. “Point!” one of the HICs called on coms, and we rained down all sorts of pain on the helpless freighter. It exploded into a satisfying ball of fire, its massive wreck floating in space, just a shell of the once great hauler. The best part of killing a freighter or hauler is always the fortune cookie/cereal box excitement of finding out what it was carrying. Our freighter victim didn’t disappoint, as he was carrying a few fitted ships in a package, including a Drake, Falcon, Cerberus, and Worm. After a few anxious minutes of guarding the wreck, we were able to bring in our own friendly freighter and scoop up the loot. The loot of course, was later split among the Corps in the alliance, and the Black Storm guys got a share of it. Unfortunately, the night ended on a bit of a sour note, as we were chased around by a fleet of 30 from Dead Terrorist alliance. Alpha Dog, was caught while our fleet advanced in a different direction, and was sadly destroyed. Thankfully, she was the only ship caught by the gang, and her destruction allowed everyone else to get away. She died a hero I tell you.

Oh, and about that Rifter. The pilot of the Rifter, was James Wolfen, a new capsuleer, and a new recruit of Black Storm Cartel. Earlier in the day, James nabbed his first kill ever when he helped his alliance mates catch a Caracal. His second kill ever? The Providence freighter of course. Congratulations to James for that, I think he may be a pirate for life now.

CSM Results and Patch Day

May 26th, 2010

Congratulations are in order to Mynxee and all the CSM candidates that have been elected to this latest version of the Council. With one notable exception, I am pleased with who will be representing the player base. Since I now reside in low sec, having Mynxee sit as chair of the CSM will ensure the CCP gives low sec some love and attention. I have followed her blog for a long time, and she deserved the honor.

Speaking of low sec, I haven’t really been able to play with the PI stuff on sisi much. I do intend to give it a try at some point, but really I’m just hoping this “industrial expansion” actually generates more traffic in low sec from capsuleers looking for more resource rich planets.

Stir Up a Hornets Nest

May 25th, 2010

We formed up in remote repair battleships for another round of low sec roaming. I have to admit, I never thought roaming in battleships would be as fun as it has proven to be. Our fleet was composed of two Armageddons, two Abaddons, a Scorpion, a Maelstrom and a Broadsword Heavy Interdictor. After farting around for some time and not finding anything to kill, we decided to head into Tama and take a look. We sent in one of our Armageddons to scout/bait, and he found that the high sec gate (nourvakaiken) was being camped by a Gallente militia frigate gang. Even though we all agreed that these weren’t good targets for our large battleships, we decided to warp in on them at range and take a few pot shots. They quickly retreated through the gate into high sec, and we warped off to a pounce spot on that very gate since the grid cleared of targets.  Aligning back to the gate from our pounce, we noticed that the frigate gang had again jumped back into Tama and were hanging out on the gate once more. We sent in our Scorpion, which was loaded with smart bombs.

Our Scorpion pilot, Bunburry, let us know that he was engaged by the frigate gang, and our fleet warped to him. At this point it was on, and what ensued is one of the more unique battles I’ve ever participated in. When we landed on grid, Bun in his Scorpion were already well into armor, and our first priority was to get our remote repairs on him. Our FC, Tim, called weapons free, as there was a handful of frigates and destroyers on grid. Then the target list on our overviews grew, and then grew some more. With the reps getting Bun’s armor back up, we started calling primaries. Quickly we took down a few Thrashers, a Jaguar, and a couple Ishkurs. For our efforts we were rewarded with a few cruisers to shoot and our guns, tired of tracking frigates, fell upon the bigger targets with considerable enthusiasm. Down went a Moa, Omen, Maller, and two Stabbers. The overview was a mess of ships warping in and out of the engagement, while we kept our group of remote rep battleships in a tight formation, keeping reps on our fleet mates as needed. At some point the militia members managed to get a Tengu, Cerberus, and a few Stealth bombers at range, and they were pounding on the Scorpion. The added DPS, combined with the gate gun fire, became too much for our reps and Bun’s Scorpion went down despite his efforts to remote ECM burst the field and warp off. With our enemies at range we ran off the few tacklers left on top of us, and in the process nabbed a nice Succubus kill when I managed to get my webs on him. With no one pinned down, we warped off to safety and exited the system.

After the fight was over we reviewed the carnage and noticed that at some point, we went from fighting the Gallente Militia, to fighting the Caldari Militia. It’s all the same really right?
